Prior to 2020, it seemed the biggest threat to jobs came from artificial intelligence. Indeed, it was rare for a week to pass without a headline claiming that automation would replace XX million jobs, as study after study seemed to come up with a different total number.
It does seem to be the way, that it is easier to find a new job when you’re still working. There’s some research to support that feeling, with a study showing that job hunters who are employed tend to receive half of the offers on the table, versus those unemployed who get just 16 per cent.
Following a truly unprecedented few months, life appears to be getting back to some semblance of normality. Shops and restaurants are reopening, offices are refilling, and business is picking up.
